Who are Friends of the School?
All parents, guardians and carers become 'friends of the school' when their children join Thomas A Becket Junior School. Everyone is welcome! Please come along and get involved with as much or as little as you may have time for. If you are able to help in any shape or form please email fos@thomasabecketjunior.org.uk or speak to the main reception.

What does Friends of the School do?

Throughout the school year we organise a variety of events to raise funds which directly benefit the children who are at the school now. Some of the events we organise are listed below.

Fireworks - October

Join us for our musical firework extravaganza event. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available in the evening, and also the opportunity to purchase our 'glowie' items.

Christmas Fair - December

Fantastic stalls and fun activities for all ages. If you need a rest from all the excitement, come and enjoy a hot drink or glass of mulled wine with a cake in our refreshment area.

Summer Fair - Friday June/July

Our Summer Fair is a fantastic event with many stalls outside on the field providing fun games, tombolas, refreshments and much more. We also have a separate licensed bar next to the BBQ which can act as a crèche for the adults.  This also overlooks the centre arena where the children display some of their many talents. Previous displays have included the very colourful Samba band and a fantastic gymnastics display.

End of year discos

A great chance for the children to celebrate the end of year with their friends and classmates, and a few brave teachers.

How are the funds raised used to benefit the children?

All requests for funding school projects are presented to the committee to be agreed upon.

The criteria for funding is that it must benefit the children and be additional to the curriculum.

Some of the many projects funded or part funded by friends of the school include:

  • Lighting system in the hall
  • Forest School equipment
  • Dance costumes
  • ICT netbooks
  • Projector in the hall
  • Blinds for the Design and Technology room
  • Refurbishment of the food technology and music rooms
  • New sports equipment and kit
  • New seating and  shading for the playing fields
  • Equipment for the Art Studio
  • The playground activity trail.

Any help is much appreciated.  We are always pleased to see new members even if it is just to attend meetings with some new ideas. If you are interested please leave your name and telephone number at reception.
